Question 29

I like to eat and soon I am going to exceed take-off weight by 5 kg. Will my safety be drastically influenced or just the performance will worsen?

According to Polish and European norms our paragliders do withstand 8G overload, so it's clear nothing wrong will happen with the gear.

With increased wing load you can expect:

  • slight increase in sink
  • slight increase in speed (the same proportion as sink - finesse should remain the same)
  • increase in agility (less brake input is required for a turn, sometimes even weight shift is enough - you have to watch out, since the paraglider reacts to pilot actions pretty hard and fast. However, if you are a frequent flyer aside of being a gourmand, you have a good chance to get used to it)
  • decreased probability of a deflation.

Generally the safety is not affected adversely, but it is reasonable to at least try a bigger canopy.
