Speed record with Plasma

tony-speed-recordIt is a rare thing, to beat an existing FAI record in such a spectacular way - Tony Gibson improved "Speed over a closed circuit of 100 km without landing" by almost 50%! His mean speed was 77 km/h, while top speed reached 115 km/h. The record attempt itself took place in April 2010 on a Plasma 26,5, and it was ratified by the FAI couple of days ago. Our hearty congratulations!

It is worth noting that in general paragliders do not fly with such speeds. How then did Tony achieve such a result? It was a mater of good planning and right tactics. The top speed was reached at altitude over 2100 m, making good use of tailwind. Details in following links:
